Collagen type XXII, alpha 1 is a fibrillenassoziiertes collagen that the gene COL22A1 is encoded. It forms homotrimers , which in turn form collagen fibrils of type XXII.

Collagen type XXII, alpha 1 is expressed on the myotendinous junction and on the articular surface of the cartilage tissue . Collagen XXII participates in the cell adhesion of ligands in multilayered epithelia and in fibroblasts .
