COVID-19 pandemic in Saxony

The COVID-19 pandemic has been occurring in Saxony since 2020 as part of the global COVID-19 pandemic and in particular the COVID-19 pandemic in Germany . The pandemic affects the novel disease COVID-19 . This is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus from the Coronaviridae group and belongs to the group of respiratory diseases .

On March 3, 2020, the Robert Koch Institute confirmed the first COVID-19 disease in Saxony. From March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization (WHO) classified the outbreak of the novel coronavirus as a global pandemic .

The state of Saxony operates a special website to provide information about the problems caused by the pandemic.

Reactions and actions

On a special website, the state of Saxony provides information about the applicable state regulations with restrictions for residents.

With the Saxon Corona Protection Ordinance (SächsCoronaSchVO) of March 31, 2020, exit restrictions except for shopping for everyday goods, the way to work, child care, care for animals, mail and mail, necessary doctor visits, visits to the authorities, for visiting spouses and life partners as well as for sport and exercise in the closer personal living environment. In the case of retirement and nursing homes , there was a ban on visits to close relatives, except for terminal care , maternity, children's and palliative wards. As an exception, controls by authorities such as youth welfare offices were permitted. The hygiene regulations on site had to be observed. Violations of the ordinances were punished with fines as administrative offenses. This ordinance was valid until April 20, 2020. A Saxon Corona Protection Ordinance of April 17, 2020 replaced the ordinance of March 31, 2020.

The distance regulations must be adhered to during exams, but school leaders are not allowed to impose a disproportionate mask requirement .
