The CP class 4700 , also known as the LE 4700, is a series of electric locomotives operated by the Portuguese State Railways (CP). They were procured to replace the older CP 2550 locomotives.
history
In January 2006, the Portuguese State Railways CP ordered 15 electric locomotives from Siemens , including a spare parts package and special tools. The locomotives with the series designation LE 4700 are based on the EuroSprinter platform and are designed for the Portuguese broad-gauge network. An option for a further ten vehicles was set, which was converted into a binding order in February 2007.
The 4,600 kW vehicles are intended for use in passenger and freight traffic and are designed for later conversion to European standard gauge.
The first three locomotives were completely manufactured in the Siemens locomotive plant in Munich, Krauss-Maffei-Strasse. The shell and pre-assembly of the following locomotives is carried out in Munich; the final assembly is carried out at EMEF , a subsidiary of CP.
technical features
The car body and driver's cab were designed in accordance with current European laws, taking into account the TSI crash standards . Essential parts of the drive and brake system are redundant and can be partially switched off in order to maintain the operational capability even in the event of a fault. The locomotive is designed for use in southern Europe with temperatures of up to +45 ° C. In addition to the diagnostic displays and an analog operating display, the locomotive was equipped with country-specific train control systems (CONVEL), train radio and operations management systems.
