The CP series 9400 is a Yugoslav - Portuguese , three-part diesel multiple unit series . It is based on the original series JZ-802 (CP-9700); As part of a renovation program in 1992/93, this was modernized and given its new name. After they were retired in 2002, some of the vehicles are being used in Mozambique and Peru .

history

modification

The original class 802 of the Yugoslav railways was sold to Portugal in 1980. The Portuguese state railway Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses (CP), however, did not meet the expectations. For this reason, she commissioned her subsidiary EMEF in 1992/1993 with a comprehensive conversion program. The originally ten four-part cars were converted into six three-part cars. Both the interior and the technical side of the car received a complete makeover, only the actual car body remained. After their conversion, the cars were only used on the Linha do Vouga and Ramal de Aveiro .

Modernized railcar in Peru

In 2002 the CP closed the majority of its narrow-gauge railway network or gave up routes to the newly built Metro do Porto . As part of this, the CP rearranged its entire fleet of narrow-gauge wagons, so that the more modern 9630 series replaced the 9400 series in the Vouga network. There was initially no further use for the series.

After they had stood at the Sernada do Vouga train station for several years , the CP managed to sell the wagons to foreign railway companies. In 2007, three cars went to the Peruvian railway company IncaRail . This tracked the cars to 914 mm and modernized them for a luxury operation on the route to the World Heritage Site Machu Picchu . They are still used there today.

The CP sold three cars to its Mozambican counterpart Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique in 2009 ; EMEF had previously refurbished them at the Guifões plant . In Mozambique, they are used in the southern network on the route to Marracuene , Matola , Ressano Garcia ( Linha de Ressano Garcia ) and Chokwé ( Linha do Limpopo ).
