Guifões is a small town east of the city of Matosinhos , in northern Portugal . It was the seat of a community of the same name ( Freguesia ) in Matosinhos County.

history

Finds prove a prehistoric settlement, in particular the excavations of the Castro do Monte Castelo de Guifões , a fortified settlement of the Castro culture . A bridge from Roman times has been preserved.

The current town was probably created during the Reconquista . For the first time as a separate municipality Guifões was listed in the royal surveys of 1258.

On June 12, 2009 she was elevated to a small town ( Vila ).

On September 29, 2013, the municipality of Guifões was merged with the municipalities of Custóias and Leça do Balio to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Custóias, Leça do Balio e Guifões as part of the administrative reorganization . The headquarters of the new community became Custóias.
