Ca 'Donà a San Polo is a palace in Venice in the Veneto region of Italy . It is located in the Sestiere San Polo with a view of Campo San Polo next to the Palazzo Soranzo .

history

The Donà family is an old Venetian family from which three Doges of the Republic of Venice come, the 79th Doge ( Francesco Donà , 1545–1535), the 90th Doge ( Leonardo Donà , 1606–1612) and the 93rd Doge ( Nicolò Donà , March – May 1618). They had a Gothic building rebuilt in the Renaissance style and made it their family residence.

description

The facade of the palace now faces Campo San Polo . It used to be on the Rio di Sant'Antonio , which was built over in 1761. The palace was previously accessible via a private bridge, which was demolished as the canal was built over.

The building has three floors, a ground floor, a main floor and mezzanine floor under the roof. On the ground floor there is a pointed arch portal with a frieze made of Istrian limestone , which used to be a portal to the water. On the main floor there is a triple arched window with a protruding balcony and divided by columns with capitals . To the right of it, above the portal, are two similar single windows without a balcony. The window arrangement is repeated on the mezzanine floor above, whereby the lower triple arched window has no balcony and the individual windows next to it are rectangular. The right part of the facade with the pointed arch portal protrudes a little. Door and window frames, as well as the balcony and the cornice above the portal are also made of Istrian limestone.
