Burkhard Sweder was born from an influential family of tailors and councilors in the city of Stendal . In 1350, he, Johann Sweder and Nikolaus von Bismarck assigned the Sankt-Gertrud-Hospital in Stendal its initial equipment. For the two brothers and magisters ( magistrī , here reference to a degree ), however, it was not until the confirmation document from 1370 that they were committed to the New Hospital in front of the Uenglingenschen Tor ( CDB 1.15, no. 225, pp. 174-175). The document also showed that the siblings had pursued different careers. While Johann worked as a doctor ( phisicus ), Burkhard worked as a canon of the Stendal collegiate monastery ( Canonicus Ecclesie Steyndal ). He was an example of the close “personal ties between the monastery and the leading families in the city .” - Christian Popp.

The Landbuch der Mark Brandenburg from 1375 also referred to his clerical career. In the village register of Schönfeld near Stendal it was said: “ Borchardus Sweder, presbyter, have 1 12  chorum cum 6 modiis siliginis, pertinet ad hospitale novum foris civitatem Stendal ” - Burkhard Sweder, priest , has 1 12  wispel with 6  bushels of rye , part of the New Hospital outside the city of Stendal. Thus, he took over the pastoral care of the St. Gertrude's Hospital and referred for a sinecure worth 1.7500  Zählstücken .

In addition, the Urbar , initiated by Emperor Charles IV , recorded personal uplifts in four villages : Borstel (in the Schulzenhof for life and in four other full farms , each referred to as master and monk ), Dahlen near Stendal (in two full farms), Groß Schwechten (in five full farms) and West heeren (in one full farm , sir). The yields totaled 144.5 bushels of rye, 10.5 chickens and 27.0 Brandenburg pfennigs , the equivalent of 6.2208 counts. In black Hagen (in Rochau risen) he had Henneke Boken with 2.0000 Zählstücken unterbelehnt .

On November 27, 1390, the Stendal college commissioned two of its members to go to Halberstadt (CDB 1.5, no. 212, p. 141). At the cathedral chapter there , they were supposed to have Dietrich von Angern recognized as the newly elected dean . Burkhard Sweder, Stiftsscholaster von Stendal and Hildebrand von Volkmarsen, Stifts thesaurar took over the task . The former appeared for the last time in 1392 in the church office mentioned (no sources are given). Again as a simple secular canon , he attested on July 30, 1397 acquisitions of his collegiate chapter in Schorstedt from the brothers Henning and Albrecht von Büste (CDB 1.5, no. 222, pp. 147-148).

The Stiftsscholaster von Stendal transferred a certificate dated June 9, 1402 to commemorate Johann Verchland, pastor in Bellingen (CDB 1.5, No. 232, p. 154). She stated that Burkhard Sweder was the former owner of his farm. Christian Popp concluded from this that he had already died at this point in time. Every year on June 3rd, the year was celebrated for him in the St. Nicholas Church in Stendal . This could determine the date of death, but not clearly the year of death. The meadows near Hassel that once belonged to Burkhard Sweder also fell to the Dead Hand (CDB 1.5, no. 264, pp. 172–173). On March 22nd, 1411, Klaus von Sanne, a squire in the village of the same name near Stendal, established an altar plunge in the church there.
