Caballería del imperio (German: The Cavalry of the Reich ) is a Mexican film from 1942. Miguel Contreras Torres directed this historical and adventure film and alsowrote the scripttogether with Rafael M. Saavedra .
The film tells the story of the love between Ramón and Baroness Lea. Ramón fights on the side of Benito Juárez against the troops of Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico . He falls in love with the Baroness Lea, who is a double of the Empress Charlotte . However, the baroness is already engaged to Rudolph, an Austrian duke in the service of Maximilian. When Ramón is captured, the baroness uses her resemblance to the empress to free him. The empress finds out, but forgives the baroness. At the end of the film, she and the Empress leave Mexico when the empire threatens to collapse, but promises to return to be with Ramón.
Caballería del imperio was produced by Miguel Contreras Torres together with the production company Producciónes Grovas . The film premiered on June 24, 1942. The Polish opera singer Korjus, who appeared in a supporting role in this film, was previously seen in the Hollywood film The Great Waltz . It was also the fourth time that Medea de Novara , wife of Contreras Torres, had a role in one of his films.
