Cabruêra is a Brazilian rock band that uses elements of traditional Brazilian music such as Forró , Baião , Samba and Maracatu . In the style of the Mangue Beat , elements of funk , ska and rap flow into it .

history

The band was formed in 1998 in Campina Grande by students from the Paraíba Federal University. She released her first album on Nikita Music in 2000. Tours through Brazil and Europe followed.

The name of the band stands for a group of backwoodsmen from the Brazilian northeast like the gang around Virgulino Ferreira da Silva , but it can also mean "herd of goats". Band leader Arthur Pessoa developed a remarkable technique of playing his acoustic guitar with the help of a ballpoint pen in such a way that it sounds like a mixture of a cello and the Brazilian berimbau . In 2001 the band won the Best Music Award at the Gramado Festival. In the same year the group moved completely to Rio de Janeiro . The band performed at major international events such as the Roskilde Festival and Popkomm .
