Johann Adolf von Möllendorff

Johann Adolf von Möllendorff (born April 6, 1690 in Hohengöhren , † March 15, 1758 at Gut Großwudicke near Rathenow ) was a Prussian lieutenant general of the cavalry , most recently chief of the Dragoon Regiment No. 10 and governor of Hornburg .

Johann Adolf was the son of the Prussian dike captain Johann Friedrich von Möllendorff (* June 12, 1650 - November 22, 1704), heir to Hohengöhren, Wudicke, Schönfeld and Bolleben, and his wife Bertha Sophia Auguste, née von Bismarck (* 6. December 1651 - † June 4, 1711). His brother Friedrich Christoph von Möllendorff (1680–1747) was also a Prussian lieutenant general.

Military career

Möllendorff attended the Knight Academy in Dom Brandenburg and was employed in July 1709 as a cornet in the regiment on horseback "Katte" of the Prussian Army . There he became a lieutenant in April 1710 and fought until the Peace of Utrecht in the Netherlands. In 1715 he became a captain and on December 1, 1719 a major in the Crown Prince's regiment. On November 21, 1723 he became lieutenant colonel and on May 1, 1736 colonel . In 1741 he received the regiment "Graf von Wartensleben" on horseback, a cuirassier regiment . On May 18, 1743, he was appointed major general . In November 1743 he received a dragoon regiment that was built from parts of the “Platen” regiment and was now called “Jung-Möllendorf” . In July 1745 he was appointed lieutenant general by King Friedrich II . During the First and Second Silesian Wars he fought in Bohemia and Moravia , where he distinguished himself especially in the battle of Kesselsdorf .

In September 1754, due to his poor health, Möllendorff diminished with a pension of 1,000 thalers .
