Cacophony was an American metal band formed in 1986 by guitarists Marty Friedman and Jason Becker . The band lasted until 1989, after which both guitarists devoted themselves to their solo careers and they joined other bands.
history
The band released their two albums Speed Metal Symphony in 1987 and Go Off! in 1988. The albums were technically very demanding, with great emphasis on shredding . The songs had high tempo , melodic solos , neoclassical scales and harmonies with two guitars. Many songs are instrumental . In a 2009 article in Guitar World , Speed Metal Symphony was ranked ninth in the top ten shredding albums.
Shortly after the band broke up, both Friedman and Becker released their solo albums Dragon's Kiss and Perpetual Burn . Friedman joined the thrash metal band Megadeth in 1990 , where he would stay for the next nine years. During this time he also released other solo albums. Becker joined David Lee Roth's solo band from 1989 to 1991 . Afterwards, Becker was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis , which restricted his movements more and more so that he was no longer able to play the guitar.
