Cage the Elephant is an American rock band from Bowling Green , Kentucky .

Band history

At the beginning of the band were the brothers Matt and Brad Shultz and Jared Champion, who already knew each other from school. Later guitarist Parish and bassist Tichenor joined them. The five only played in their home in the state of Kentucky before they came to an appearance at the South-By-South-West Festival in Texas. There they attracted so much attention that not only did nationwide appearances follow, there was especially interest in the rock band in London.

The five musicians moved to the British capital in autumn 2007. In no time they recorded their debut album, which bears the band name as its title. After her third single, Ain't No Rest for the Wicked , entered the UK Top 40 in June 2008, the album also followed her into the charts.

It wasn't until the spring of the following year that Cage the Elephant were able to bring their success to their homeland. Her debut album only reached number 67, but stayed in the charts for a year and a half, establishing it in the US. The second studio album "Thank You, Happy Birthday" was released on January 11, 2011 and this time it went straight to number 2 on the Billboard 200 .

In October 2009, Ain't No Rest for the Wicked was used as the theme song for the PC and console game Borderlands .

Further album releases followed in 2011 ( Thank You, Happy Birthday ) and 2013 ( Melophobia ).

In December 2013, guitarist Lincoln Parish announced that he was leaving the band because he wanted to devote himself to other projects. Parish was still involved in the recordings of Melophobia , but was replaced by a new guitarist for the upcoming tours for the album. During the live performances on the tour there was also an engagement as the opening act for Muse in the USA.

The band's fourth LP was released at the end of 2015. The work, produced by Black Keys member Dan Auerbach, is titled Tell Me I'm Pretty . At the Grammy Awards 2017 they received the award for the best rock album of the year. Four years later, the follow-up album Social Cues received the second Grammy award .
