The place is 373 kilometers from the city of Norseman and 146 kilometers from Balladonia .

The name Caiguna means "way of the spears" in the language of the Aborigines . Caiguna was founded in 1962 as a stopover for traffic on the occasion of the Commonwealth Games in the direction of Perth . Ten kilometers from the place is a memorial to John Baxter , who was murdered on April 29, 1841 at this location by two members of the Eyre expedition . The memorial was erected in 1930 by the Western Australian Historical Society .

In the west of Caiguna, the 90 mile straight section begins on the Eyre Highway , which, at 146.6 kilometers, is the longest curvilinear road in Australia and leads to Balladonia.

In Caiguna there is a caravan park, a motel and restaurant and a service station that is open 24 hours a day. There is a landing strip not far from the village. In 2009 the place is nothing more than a supply station.
