Cairo is a city in Grady County , Georgia , USA . At the time of the 2010 census, the city had 9,607 inhabitants. The city is the county seat of Grady County.
history
Cairo was founded in 1835 and was registered as a locality since 1870 and as a city since 1906. In 1905 Cairo was named the seat of the newly formed Grady County. The city was named after Cairo , the capital of Egypt. On March 3, 2019, the city was hit by a tornado that caused extensive damage.

education
In addition to Cairo High School as the central high school for the entire Grady County, there are three elementary schools in Cairo, the Eastside Elementary , Northside Elementary and Southside Elementary, and the Washington Middle School as a middle school .
There is also a campus of the Southern Regional Technical College in Cairo .

US Highway 84 runs through the town .
Healthcare
The Grady General Hospital has 60 beds and is since 1985 the John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville connected.
