The Calédonia was one of two identical passenger ships . She entered service in 1952 for the French shipping company Messageries Maritimes . The Calédonia was sold in 1972 and then used under the Greek flag for two years until it was scrapped in Taiwan in 1974 .

history

The Calédonia was built by Ateliers & Chantiers de France in Dunkirk and launched on April 26, 1952. The ship was delivered in September 1952 and put into service on October 1, 1952 on the route from Marseille to Australia . 1953 followed the identical sister ship Tahitien .

The Calédonien remained as her sister ship for twenty years in service for Messageries Maritimes and was sent to the Greek shipping company in 1972 Efthymiades Lines sold them in Nisus Kypros renamed. In the same year, however, the name was changed to Island of Cyprus .

The Island of Cyprus was henceforth used in the liner service from Piraeus to Cyprus . The service turned out to be unprofitable, so that the ship was decommissioned in March 1974 and offered for sale. The demolition yard Chi Shun Hwa Steel Co. Ltd. became the new owner. based in Kaohsiung . On June 10, 1974, the Island of Cyprus arrived in Kaohsiung and was scrapped there in the following months.
