Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Cala Magraner is a small bay with a sandy beach on the east coast of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located in the southeast of the municipality of Manacor between the towns of Cales de Mallorca and S'Estany d'en Mas .

Location and description

Beach in front of the cliff

The Cala Magraner is located away from the nearest tourist settlements Cales de Mallorca, two kilometers to the south, and S'Estany d'en Mas, four kilometers northeast. It is part of the nature reserve Cales Verges de Manacor (type ANEI - Àrea natural d'especial interès). The bay has a small side bay with Cala Pilota to the south and, like the Cala Virgili, which adjoins it to the south, is bordered by the capes Punta de ses Penyes Altes (southeast) and Punta des Moro (northeast).

Brackish pond

The area in the interior of the island is part of the Can Roig and Son Josep de Baix estates . These are through the valley of Regueró de Cala Magraner separated, a torrent ( Torrent ), referred to herein as Regueró ( "trickle") refers only heavy rainfall throughout the water to the east leads to the sea. In front of the local beach , which is about 60 meters long and 80 meters wide , the inflow of the stream leads to the formation of a pond, which mostly contains brackish water due to the lack of rainwater and seepage of seawater .

The beach is framed by rock walls that form a cliff coast above the sea water of the bay . The beach, which slopes gently into the sea, consists of sand and rubble . Seagrass deposits can occur on the shore . On the north side of the beach are the remains of a small building. The rock face to the north, which rises about 25 meters above sea level, is often used by free climbers. At the foot of the rock, along the stream and on the southern slope, pine trees stand individually and in groups of trees. From 500 meters west of the beach there are agricultural areas.

Access

From the MA-4014 road between Porto Cristo and Portocolom , the road to Cales de Mallorca branches off to the southeast about 10 kilometers after Porto Cristo (at kilometer stone 6). From there, after a little over two kilometers, a path leads off to the left at the underpass of the Regueró de Cala Bóta stream . From a passage to the right of a large gate, this path leads about 3.2 kilometers through a protected area that is privately owned and can only be walked on, and ends northeast of Cala Magraner . The bay can also be reached from the MA-4014 along the creek bed of the Regueró de Cala Magraner in a south-easterly direction for about 2.1 kilometers. Another 1.8 kilometer long path leads across the Son Josep de Baix (also Son Josep Nou ) estate .
