As early as 1953 he had (together with Henryk Hechtkopf ) as an assistant director Wanda Jakubowska at Żołnierz Zwycięstwa worked, in 1955, he turned, co-directed with Hechtkopf, his first film mountains burn ( Podhale w ogniu ) over the peasant uprising of Aleksander Kostka Napierski in 17th century Poland.

In 1961, the children's film His Great Friend was made , with which Batory won the Director's Prize and the Silver Shell at the San Sebastián Film Festival that same year .

His next film, The Two Moon Thieves ( O dwóch takich, co ukradli księżyc , 1962) won the Grand Prize at the Gijón International Film Festival in 1964 and a prize at the Tehran Film Festival in 1966. The children's film based on the novel of the same name by Kornel Makuszyński is about the greedy and greedy twins Jacek and Placek (played by the twelve-year-old twin brothers Lech and Jarosław Kaczyński ) who want to catch the moon with a fishing net and sell it. More than 40 years later, the film regained popularity when the Kaczyński Twins ruled the Republic of Poland as President and Prime Minister.

This was followed by other successful films for children ( The Stallion Karino / The Foal Karino with Claudia Rieschel in the leading role of the young veterinarian, 1974 initially as a 13-part television series, 1976 as a theatrical version), but also crime films ( The Passenger is Death , 1963; ransom , 1981), espionage thrillers ( Meeting a Spy , 1964), comedies ( Cures for Love , 1966) and melodramas ( Con amore , 1976).
