The two moon thieves (Polish O dwóch takich, co ukradli księżyc , literally: About two those who stole the moon ) is a Polish film from 1962. It is the film adaptation of the fairy tale by Kornel Makuszyński from 1928. In the GDR , the Children's film premiered in German on May 25, 1964 and on television on East German television on August 3, 1985.

action

The two blond, freckled twins Jacek and Placek live in the village of Zapiecek . The two lazy and cruel brothers are constantly playing tricks on the local residents. In order to finally free themselves from the burden of work, they decide to steal the golden moon. They manage to catch the moon in a net, but are caught by robbers. When the moon disappears from the network at the new moon, the twins wander into the golden city in search of the moon. There they recognize the only apparent value of a treasure. The brothers then return to their parents in Zapiecek and help them in the fields.

background

The film was shot in 1961/1962 in Łeba and Łódź . Stylistically, the film is reminiscent of the Soviet film with a Spartan backdrop and the special effects inherent in these films. When the two Kaczyńskis became President (Lech) and Prime Minister (Jarosław) of Poland in 2005, the film was in demand again. The film met with great interest both in cinemas and on DVD.
