Location and description

Beach

The Cala Pilota is away from the nearest tourist settlements Cales de Mallorca, two kilometers to the south, and Cala Romantica, about four kilometers northeast, in the nature reserve Cales Verges de Manacor (type ANEI - Àrea natural d'especial interès). The bay is bordered by the capes Punta de ses Penyes Altes (south-east) and Punta des Moro (north-east) as a southwestern rock cut at Cala Magraner, like Cala Virgili . The area in the interior of the island is privately owned as part of the Can Roig estate.

On the shores of Cala Pilota is a small beach about 30 meters long and 25 meters wide . It is framed by rock walls that form a cliff coast above the sea water of the bay . The beach, which slopes gently into the sea, consists of fine sand. Seagrass deposits can occur on the shore . In the rear area of the beach was the at Cala Pilota opens small torrent ( Torrent ) detritus deposited. The brook, fed by rainwater, rarely carries water. At its lower reaches only low vegetation has settled while on the cliffside towards Can Roig also pine forests are found.

Access

From the MA-4014 road between Porto Cristo and Portocolom , the road to Cales de Mallorca branches off to the southeast about 10 kilometers after Porto Cristo (at kilometer stone 6). After a little over two kilometers, a path leads off to the left at the underpass of the Reguero de Cala Bóta stream, which ends behind a passage to the right of a large gate on a curved path through the nature reserve running northeast at Cala Magraner . From here, further paths branch off one after the other in an easterly direction to the bays of Cala Bóta , Cala Virgili and Cala Pilota . The distance from the gate to Cala Pilota is about 2.9 kilometers.
