Beaches and bays in Mallorca

Cala Murta (' Myrtle Bay ') is a small sea bay in the east of the Spanish Balearic island of Mallorca . It is located on the coast of the municipality of Manacor immediately south of Porto Cristo .

Location and description

North side of Cala Murta

The Cala Murta is located south of the settlement Sa Torre , a district of Porto Cristo, which is about 20 to 27 meters above the sea level of the bay. It is bordered by the capes Punta de Cala Murta in the south and Punta d'en Pellador in the northeast. The entrance to Cala Manacor , the port of Porto Cristo, is 750 meters northeast of Cala Murta at the lighthouse of Morro de sa Carabassa . The capital of the municipality of Manacor is 10.2 kilometers northwest.

On the northwest side of the Cala Murta little as 10 meters is long and 12 meters wide, interspersed with stones pebble beach , on which many seaweed deposits. It is framed by flat rocks on which pine and bushes grow. At the beach only about 400 meters long, coming from the west flows Regueró that leads only after heavy rains water. A machine gun stand was built on the north side of the bay during the Spanish Civil War in the second half of the 1930s , and it is still preserved.

Just north of the bay, the site of the closed touristy developed cave system of Drach on. Joan Servera Camps built a new entrance to the caves near Cala Murta in 1929, which has served as the main entrance ever since.

Access

From the MA-4014 road in Porto Cristo, Avinguda Joan Servera Camps leads southeast to the Torre del Serral dels Falcons . Before reaching the tower, Carrer de la Fitora turns right , at the end of which there is parking for vehicles. From there a 180 meter long path leads down to the bay.
