history
Caldwell is named after the previous landowners Joseph and Samuell Caldwell. From 1857, Caldwell was officially recognized as a settlement, although numerous people had settled here as early as 1814. The settlement grew only slowly. In 1880 there were only 602 residents in Caldwell. In the period after that, the population doubled. In this place was the oldest oil production facility in North America.
