Calhetas is the smallest municipality, Portuguese Freguesia , in the district ( Municipio ) Ribeira Grande in the north of the Azores island of São Miguel .
The community has a population of 4.7 km² 988 (as of June 30, 2011), that is 210.3 inhabitants / km², and is located about 2 kilometers west of the district capital. In the community there is a school, a high school, a church and a Praça , a church and council square.
