Callistodema fasciata is a species of bug from the family of predatory bugs (Reduviidae).

features

The medium-sized bedbugs are slender in stature. The head, the front part of the pronotum and the scutellum are colored black. The rear part of the pronotum is orange-light red and has a black spot on each side. The hemielytres are orange-light red in color and have two broad black transverse bands. The abdomen is orange-light red in color. The connexive (part of the abdomen that is visible on the side) has black spots. The first part of the antennae is very long, thickened, and colored black. The rest of the links are reddish and slender. The femora (thighs) of the front legs are thickened, black on the top and orange-light red on the underside. The middle and rear legs are black with a wide orange-light red stripe at the transition between femur and tibia (splint).

Distribution and habitats

The distribution area of ​​the bug species extends from the eastern Mediterranean (Greece) and the Black Sea region (Russia) through Asia Minor and the Caucasus (Armenia, Azerbaijan) to the Middle East (Iran). The bugs are found almost exclusively on tamarisks ( Tamarix ).

Way of life

The animals predatory on various insects. The green nymphs feed on small singing cicadas (Cicadidae) as well as soft and ground bugs. The adult bedbugs are very cold-resistant. They can survive temperatures from −20 ° C to −30 ° C.
