Callitris monticola is a plant from the family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). It isnative toeastern Australia .

description

Callitris monticola grows as an upright, bushy, evergreen shrub that can reach heights of up to 2.5 meters. The branches go up straight from the trunk.

The blue-green to dark green leaves are 2 to 4 millimeters long and the reverse side of the leaves is conspicuously keeled.

Nothing is known about the male cones in the sources evaluated here. The female cones , standing individually or in small groups on the branches, have a diameter of 1.5 to 2.5 centimeters and are broad-egg-shaped to flattened-spherical in shape. The cones are initially blue-green in color and change color towards maturity. Each cone contains six thick cone scales and several seeds. The seeds can remain in the cones for several years after ripening before they are released and the cones fall from the branches. The dark brown seeds are about 2 to 3 millimeters in size and have two or three wings.

Occurrence and endangerment

The natural range of Callitris monticola is in southeast Queensland and northeast New South Wales . In New South Wales the distribution area extends from the Gibraltar Range National Park to the coast. In Queensland, it includes the Border Ranges on the New South Wales border.

Callitris monticola grows mainly on shallow, sandy soils that form on sandstone , granite or rhyolite .

Callitris monticola is in the red list of the IUCN classified in 1998 as "endangered". It is pointed out, however, that a new review of the hazard is necessary. The main reasons given are logging, forest fires and overgrazing.

Taxonomy

The first description of Callitris monticola was made in 1957 by Joy Garden in Contributions from the New South Wales National Herbarium , Volume 2, page 385 are met.
