Callitris tuberculata is a plant from the family of the cypress family (Cupressaceae). It isnative tothe south of the Australian state of Western Australia .
description
Callitris tuberculata grows as an evergreen shrub or small tree that can reach heights of up to 8 meters. Occasionally, multiple stems are formed. The branches go up straight from the trunk.
The green to gray-green leaves are 2 to 4 millimeters long. Their back is rounded.
The male cones are in groups on the branches and are cylindrical in shape with a length of up to 5 millimeters. The spherical to flattened spherical female cones stand together individually or in groups, have a stalk and are 2 to 2.5 centimeters thick. Each cone consists of six thick, warty cone scales and carries numerous seeds. After ripening, they remain on the branches for several years before they release the seeds and fall. The dark brown seeds are about 4 millimeters in size and have two or three wings.
Occurrence and endangerment
The natural range of Callitris tuberculata is in southern Western Australia . It extends there from the eastern part of the southern Wheatbelt over the region of the Goldfields to the Great Victoria Desert .
Callitris tuberculata grows mainly on hills and plains of red desert sand and on coastal dunes .
Callitris tuberculata is not listed on the IUCN Red List .
Systematics
It was first described as Callitris tuberculata in 1910 by Richard Thomas Baker and Henry George Smith in Pines of Australia , page 99. Some authors assign the species Callitris preissii or Callitris verrucosa .
From the edges of the Great Victoria Desert to the mouth of the Murchison River you can find naturally formed hybrids with Callitris glaucophylla .
