Athletic career
The talent scouts of Liverpool FC discovered Brannagan in 2005 when he was playing in Cadishead , a suburb of Salford in Greater Manchester . Before his ninth birthday, he was part of the Liverpool Youth Academy and the Brannagan family were quickly convinced that the future of the offspring was not with Manchester United , but with rivals. His way through the age groups of the "Reds" led him into the U-18 selection before he was 16 years old. Then came the promotion to the U-21 and there he made a name for himself as a dangerous midfielder. Although he found his favorite position in attacking midfield, he showed himself to be versatile and in the youth teams he acted as a winger and right-back. In November 2013 he signed his first professional contract in Liverpool and in January 2014 he sat on the bench for the first time in a competitive first-team match in the FA Cup against Oldham Athletic . Although he was not used in the further course of the season, in the U-21 he had blossomed into a regular with 19 games.
In September 2015 he made his debut in the Europa League at Girondins Bordeaux (1-1) by substituting for Jordan Rossiter eleven minutes before the end of the game. This was followed by the first appearance in the League Cup against AFC Bournemouth (1-0) and the debut in the Premier League against Swansea City (1: 3) on May 1, 2016. Overall, Brannagan came to nine in the 2015/16 season Appearances in the first team of Liverpool FC. In the second half of the 2016/17 season, the player was loaned out to Fleetwood Town . From summer 2017 he played mainly in the second team of Liverpool FC.
On January 11, 2018, the club announced Brannagan's move to third division club Oxford United . There he signed a contract until the end of the 2020/21 season.
