Camillo Schaufuss

Schaufuss first appeared as director of the natural history museum created by his father Ludwig Wilhelm Schaufuss (which presented around 80,000 objects; 90% of the exhibits were insects from all over the world) and as president of the Reich Association of German Animal Welfare Associations .

Life

As a 15-year-old, Camillo Schaufuss helped his father catalog insects , snails and other animal exhibits . He was born with Marie Maun from Großenhain who died after five years of marriage. At the age of 26 he wrote his first scientific work "Catalogus synonymicus Pselaphidarum adhuc descriptarum". In 1887 he moved the "Ludwig Salvator" museum founded by his father from Dresden to Meissen . He was unable to hold the provisional museum in Meißen for long due to lack of money and gave the extensive collection away to the universities in Berlin , Leipzig and Freiberg . In 1902 he married the second time and had three children. He was a member of the Meissen Masonic Lodge at the Acacia .

As a private scholar, owner of a publishing company (for scientific teaching aids) and non-fiction author, he followed in his father's footsteps. He was also a pioneer of scientific animal protection work , to which he devoted himself for over 40 years. During the time of National Socialism he was replaced as President of the German Animal Welfare Association . His animal welfare calendars played a pioneering role in science and education in Europe. For the animal lover and animal lover Schaufuss it was a pleasant duty to stand by all the members of the animal welfare associations on a voluntary basis until the end of his life.
