Campbell is a civil parish in Clarke County in the state of Alabama in the United States .

geography

Campbell is located in southwest Alabama in the southern United States. It is located about 6 kilometers east of the Tombigbee River , which joins the Mobile River to the south and eventually flows into Mobile Bay and the Gulf of Mexico .

Nearby places include Putnam (12 km north), Coffeeville (17 km southwest), Thomasville (19 km east), Dixons Mills (22 km northeast), and Fulton (15 km southeast). The next larger city with 195,000 inhabitants is Mobile, about 130 kilometers to the south .

history

The area was first settled in the 1800s and was still named Millersville at the time , referring to a local family. The place was later named after a medic who lived here. A post office was opened in 1886.

Campbell is located directly on Alabama State Route 69 , which connects to US Highway 84 in the south . US Highway 43 runs about 23 kilometers east .
