Campeonato Nacional General Artigas
The Campeonato Nacional General Artigas , also known as the Copa Artigas , was a Uruguayan football club competition.
The competition was held in 1960, 1961 and 1962. It was a first attempt in Uruguayan football to host a championship in which teams from both inland and Montevideo participated. The idea came from the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (AUF), which united the ten Montevidean clubs of the Primera División and the four winners of the associations in the interior in one tournament on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the association . In addition to the first division clubs, Artigas competed for the coastal area ( littoral ), Durazno (south), Tacuarembó (north) and Maldonado (east).
The first event decided Club Atlético Defensor after eleven wins and two draws in his favor. The winning team coached by Hugo Bagnulo essentially consisted of the following players:
Radiche (Radicci) - Esteban Álvarez (captain), Climaco Rodríguez - De Souza , Malinowski , Miramontes - Román , Rosas Riolfo , Walter Hernández , Willy Píriz , Brasil .
Were also used Marega , Clulow , Omar Ferreira , JM Castro and Marotti . Second place was Nacional , followed by Peñarol , Liverpool , Cerro and Fénix . In the two following years, Nacional won the title.
