Campionatul Naţional de Fotbal American
The Campionatul Naţional de Fotbal American (CNFA) is the sports league in which the Romanian championship in American football is played. It was founded in 2010 and is played as a round-robin tournament with subsequent play-offs. The final is the RoBowl . The current champions are the Bucharest Rebels , who are record champions with four titles thanks to their 2019 title win together with the Cluj Crusaders .
mode
First, a simple round- robin tournament is played, which means that there is only one leg and no return between two teams. This has been followed by two semi-finals since 2014, in which the first in the final table competes against the fourth and the second against the third. The teams placed higher each enjoy home rights. The two winners compete against each other in the RoBowl. Before 2014, the two top-ranked teams went straight to the final. Exceptions are the years 2011 and 2012 in which only two teams competed and the Romanian championship was played in two legs. Another exception was the 2014 season in which eight teams competed in two separate divisions and the semi-finals were played crosswise.
Teams
Founding members of the CNFA are the Bucharest Warriors , the Cluj Crusaders , the Bucharest Predators and the Timișoara Lions. Since the 2016 season, the number of teams has remained constant at five. The record season happened in 2014 when eight teams competed in the league. In 2011 and 2012 there were only two teams at the start.
Record participants are the Cluj Crusaders, who have participated in every championship so far. The Bucharest Rebels have consistently been in the top class since the 2012 season and, together with the founding members Bucharest Warriors and Timișoara 89ers (formerly Timișoara Lions), make eight participations.
In the 2019 season, the following teams belonged to the CNFA:
- Bucharest Rebels
- Timișoara 89ers
- Cluj Crusaders
