The Polska Liga Futbolu Amerykańskiego (PLFA) is a league for American football in Poland . It was founded in 2006 and is organized by the Polish association Polski Związek Futbolu Amerykańskiego (PZFA) . The top division has been the top league since 2012. Like the ranked PLFA I and PLFA II, it will be held on an amateur basis . After the 2017 season there was a split in Polish American football, 20 clubs left the PLFA and founded a new league, the Liga Futbolu Amerykańskiego (LFA).

Game mode

Each team plays a home or an away game against every other team, so that the regular season comprises ten games.

After the end of the regular season, the top four players in the play-offs play the Polish champions in the knockout system. The first plays against the fourth and the second against the third. The final of the Polish championship is the SuperFinał (Polish Bowl). With the establishment of the top league in January 2012, the automatic promotion and relegation rule no longer applies. The promotion or relegation or an exit or a new entry mostly depends on the financial possibilities of the individual teams.

An important rule concerns the limitation of non-Polish players. The teams may have an unlimited number of foreign players in their squad and use them on the match day, only one American and one other foreign player may be on the field per play. These regulations were made to promote Polish football and to enable financially weaker clubs to join.

The game is played according to the rules of the PZFA, which are based on the rules of college football of the NCAA .

In the 2019 season, the PLFA merged with the Eastern European Superleague, in which teams from Russia and Belarus play. The Polish top division is the Western Division and the EESL is the Eastern Division of the new European Super League .
