X-League

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The X League is a Japanese football league that has existed since 1971 . Before it was renamed in 1987, it was called the Japan American Football League . It consists of divisions, X1, X2, X3 and X4 between which the teams can be promoted and relegated. In these divisions the teams are again divided into three groups, East, West and Central. As in Germany, the X-League is played according to college football rules and a quarter lasts 12 instead of 15 minutes.

The season begins with the regular season in which the six teams in a division compete against each other in a round system. The three best placed teams reach the championship round in which the four play-off places are played out. The other teams compete in a consolation round. The final is called the Japan X Bowl .

Japan X Bowl

Until 2002, the final was played under the name Tokyo Super Bowl. The count continued so that Tokyo Super Bowl XVI was followed by Japan X Bowl XVII. The current titleholders are the Fujitsu Frontiers , who beat the IBM Big Blue in the 2014 final with 44:12. Record title holder is Obic Seagull with eight bowl victories.
