Canal Sur Radio is a regional Spanish radio program which can be received in Andalusia and Gibraltar . The provider is La Agencia Pública Empresarial de la Radio y Televisión de Andalucía (RTVA), the public service business agency for radio and television of the government of the autonomous community of Andalusia.

On February 28, 1988, on Día de Andalucía, the holiday to commemorate the referendum on the autonomy of Andalusia eight years earlier, the broadcast began with test broadcasts in two separate programs. One with higher cultural standards and with pop and rock music than “Canal Sur Uno”. A second more down-to-earth with Spanish or mainly Andalusian music as “Canal Sur Dos”. The official broadcast began on November 11, 1988. Critics soon referred to the two programs as radio for the rich and one for the poor

Today RTVA operates a regional radio and TV network under the name “Canal Sur”. In addition to Canal Sur Radio , the specialty channels Radio Andalucía Información , Canal Fiesta and the Internet radio Flamenco Radio also belong to the same group.
