The Canale Battaglia is a canal in the province of Padua in the Italian region of Veneto ( Veneto ). It extends from the south of Padua to Battaglia Terme , where it flows into the Canale Bisatto . The water comes from the Bacchiglione river.

history

The Canale Battaglia was excavated between 1189 and 1201 to connect Padua with the cities of Monselice and Este . The canal was also an important artery for transporting goods and building materials from the Euganean Hills to Padua and Venice in the first centuries . During the times of the Republic of Venice , it was also used as a link between the Venetian nobility and summer residences in the Euganean Hills.

course

The Canale Battaglia begins in Bassanello, a southern district of Padua. Directly to Padua a bridge of the southern bypass road of Padua leads over the canal, which first flows past the Villa Giusti and then past the Villa San Bonifacio on the opposite bank in Albignasego . This is followed by the bridge Ponte della Cagna that the two places Mandriola and the Herd with Villa Molin joins, followed by between Albignasego and Abano Terme nearby Ponte della Fabbrica . The canal then passes the village of Mezzavia ( half way ), said to be halfway between Rome and Vienna . Shortly before Battaglia Terme is the Venetian villa Castello del Catajo on the orographic right .
