Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte

The Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte (literally: International Art Workshop ) is an Italian summer academy and music festival for young singers, actors, musicians, directors, conductors, composers ... that has been taking place annually in Montepulciano since 1976 and by Hans Werner Henze was brought into being, which premiered a number of his works there .

The productions developed in the workshop will be performed during the festival. The participants are accommodated and fed by residents of the city and have to demonstrate their work to the citizens of the city.

Since November 2005, the Cantiere has been organized by a foundation supported by the municipality of Montepulciano and the Province of Siena : “Fondazione Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte di Montepulciano” . The artistic direction from 2009 to 2011 was with the German composer Detlev Glanert , from 2012 to 2014 with Vincent Monteil and since 2015 with the conductor Roland Böer , who has also been the music director of the festival since 2009.

1980

At the 5th Cantiere, Henze's children's opera Pollicino , directed by Willy Decker and set by Peter Nagel , was premiered with the participation of amateur actors from the community. In that year, the Cantiere worked as performing artists, conductors, directors and choreographers: Elena Calivà ; Gaston Fournier-Facio ; Jan Latham-Koenig ; Helge Slaatto ; Reinbert Evers ; Homero Francesch ; William Forsythe ; Uwe Scholz ; Farhad Mechkat ; Giovanni Lombardo Radice ; Gianluigi Gelmetti ; Howard Arman ; Volker Schlöndorff ; Gerhard Schmidt-Gaden ; Dennis Russell Davies ; Markus Huber ; Spiros Argiris ; Cristóbal Halffter ; Gidon Kremer ; Jelena Dmitrievna Bashkirova ; Romuald Tecco ; Olimpia Carlisi . Twelve piano pieces by Tilo Medek were also premiered .
