Cantus Domus is a mixed Berlin choir under the direction of Ralf Sochaczewsky .
History and information
Cantus Domus was founded as an amateur choir in Berlin in 1996 and has grown to over 100 members since it was founded. The name is a Latin word play on house choir .
The choir is organized as an association (Cantus Domus eV) and part of the Berlin Choir Association . The line-up changes with appearances and is recruited from among active members.
In 2017 and 2019, it received the highest level of lay choir funding in the State of Berlin.
program
Cantus Domus performs musical works partly in unusual locations and with unusual dramaturgy. They performed Bach's B minor Mass in a former power plant, Kraftwerk Berlin , and Arthur Honegger's Roi David with danced contributions. Frank Schwemmer's choir opera Macbeth premiered in 2016 and a jazz composition by Charlotte Greve in 2017 : Sediments we move . Cantus Domus calls these performances concept concerts .
The choir sings regularly at the Haldern Pop Festival and numerous projects take place as part of artistic collaborations, for example with the Abaco Orchestra , Tocotronic , Damien Rice , The Slow Show and Bon Iver.
International projects
In 2017 Cantus Domus worked with the Georgian choir Shavnabada . The aim of the cooperation was a comparison and a mutual exchange between the polyphonic music culture of Georgia and that of Central Europe and resulted in concerts in Georgia and Germany. A report on this was broadcast on the Georgian television Imedi TV .
A Paris concert with Damian Rice appeared on Arte .
Prices
Cantus Domus won third place in the German Choir Competition 2010 and seventh place in 2018.
