The Cape Enrage Lighthouse is a lighthouse that is located on the edge of Barn Marsh Island in Albert County in the Canadian province of New Brunswick on a cliff above the Bay of Fundy . Alma is twelve kilometers to the west and Moncton is 50 kilometers to the north. The name Cape Enrage characterizes the position of the lighthouse in a particularly dangerous and the "raging sea" (English: enranged sea ) bathed Cape (ger .: landscape ). The tower is nine meters high, made of wood, painted white, has a red lantern and is shaped like a truncated pyramid with a square base.
history
The lighthouse was built in 1838, making it one of the oldest in Canada. It served as a guide for shipping in the Bay of Fundy between the provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia . A fixed, white light was initially installed in its tip, which was later changed to a green hazard warning system. Due to the exposed location, numerous storms caused considerable damage in the following years, which made numerous and sometimes extensive and costly repairs necessary. From the 1980s, the tower was no longer manned and only operated automatically.
Due to the impressive view of the Bay of Fundy as far as Nova Scotia, the lighthouse is increasingly developing as a tourist attraction.
