The Caproni ca.164 was an Italian trainer aircraft .
History and construction
The Caproni Ca.164 was a one-and-a-half-decker with fabric-covered wooden wings. The hull, which was also covered with fabric, consisted of welded steel tubes. The machine was manufactured in the Predappio plant built in 1935. The non-retractable landing gear was partially covered and the separate cockpits each had a low windbreak. When connecting the wings, there are similarities to the Caproni Ca.100 .
Designed as a travel and training aircraft, a small number went to the Regia Aeronautica . However, a complete unit was never equipped with this model. A total of 279 pieces were produced, of which around 150 were at the Predappio plant.
In 1942, a ca.164 was used as a tactical reconnaissance aircraft for short distances when fighting partisans in Croatia.
