Carcharhinus humani is a small species of shark found in the western Indian Ocean and the Persian Gulf . It was only described in mid-2014 on the basis of 5 type specimens that were caughtoff the coasts of Kuwait , Socotra , Mozambique and South Africa .

features

Carcharhinus humani belongs to the C. dussumieri / sealei group ( C. sealei subgroup) within the genus Carcharhinus and, like all sharks in this group, is a small, slender shark with a slightly sickle-shaped first dorsal fin, a black-tipped second dorsal fin, while all other fins are monochrome, and a non-flattened muzzle that is rounded when viewed from above and below and closely rounded when viewed from the side. Carcharhinus humani differs from the closely related black-spotted shark ( C. sealei ) in that it has a longer rostrum and the sharply delineated spot on the second dorsal fin that does not reach the surface of the dorsal surface. In the black-spotted shark, the spot is only diffusely demarcated and usually extends to the back. Carcharhinus humani differs from Carcharhinus coatesi by the shorter first dorsal fin, the higher second dorsal fin and a larger number of vertebrae (152–167 vs. 134–147).

Carcharhinus humani is the only species of the C. sealei subgroup that occurs in the western Indian Ocean.
