description

Vegetative characteristics

The New Zealand foam herb is a perennial herbaceous plant . It is very variable in its vegetative appearance, resembling the hairy and the forest foam herb . The ascending to prostrate stem has a maximum of two to three leaves.

The New Zealand foam herb can easily be recognized as a foam herb species by the typically formed, pinnate leaves standing together in a basal rosette . The pinnate leaves with a maximum of four pairs of leaflets can be glabrous or hairy, with the terminal leaflets larger than the lateral leaflets.

Generative characteristics

The small, variable inflorescence and later infructescence compared to other foamy herb species is not regular and racemose , as is typical for cruciferous vegetables , but rather appears umbrella-like with only a few flowers. The relatively large flowers have four petals overlapping petals and six stamens .

The slender fruit stalk can be very short or up to 5 cm long. The 10 to 22 mm long, slender pods sometimes seem to arise from a point; often only one to four pods are formed.

Occurrence

Cardamine corymbosa is native to New Zealand . It has been observed as a neophyte in Scotland since 1991. The New Zealand foam herb was probably introduced with planting material and quickly spread through tree nurseries and plant dealers in Great Britain and Ireland. Around 1999/2000 this species reached the Netherlands and Belgium. So far, four observations have been made from Germany.
