Carey McWilliams (journalist)

Carey McWilliams (born December 13, 1905 in Steamboat Springs , Colorado , † June 27, 1980 in New York City , New York ) was an American journalist, editor and lawyer.

McWilliams is best known for his writings on social issues in California . Examples are the living and working conditions of migrant workers , or the internment of Japanese US citizens in camps during the Second World War .

He was editor of The Nation magazine for twenty years . His son Wilson Carey McWilliams (1933-2005) was known as a professor of political science at Rutgers University and as an author.
