The Carl-Blechen-Grundschule is a school in the Sandow district of Cottbus .

history

The school was founded in 1913 as the “5th and 6th community school "founded. It was attended by both boys and girls, with separate classes. They received school meals from the kitchen of the local women's association . In February 1945 the school was hit by several aerial bombs, which destroyed the north wing of the main building and the outbuilding. In May 1945 the school was used as a refugee camp, which is why school operations were interrupted, but could be resumed in October 1945. In September 1946 the school became the second unified school , in which 1272 students were taught by 31 teachers. From 1970 to 1989 it was called the "Walter Wagner Oberschule" as a polytechnic high school. In 1993 it was expanded to become the first and largest all-day school in Brandenburg. From the year 2000 it was run as "Sandower Realschule". A school museum was set up for the 88th anniversary. In 2006, the city of Cottbus had extensive renovation work carried out on and in the school building, which is why the school had to move to the building that is now the Evangelical High School . An investor from Leipzig has been running the school since the end of the renovation in 2009 and has rented it for the city of Cottbus to use. Since then, the school building has been used as the " Carl Blechen Primary School". The school offers individual support for children with speech and hearing problems and for children with Down syndrome .
