Carl-Johan Sundström (born July 1, 1902 in Hamina , † May 5, 1959 in Stockholm ) was a Finnish politician and diplomat .

Life

Carl-Johan Sundström studied odontology and was active in the trade union movement. From 1936 to 1940 he sat in parliament for the Social Democratic Party of Finland .

After the Winter War , he belonged to a group of six in this parliamentary group, which demanded peace with the Soviet Union and was therefore expelled from the party. They formed the Socialist Group . After the beginning of the Continuation War on June 22, 1941, he was arrested. After the end of the war in 1944, the Democratic Union of the Finnish People was founded , which he chaired from 1944 to 1946.

In September 1945 Sundström was appointed ambassador to the government of the Soviet Union under Stalin in Moscow , where he was accredited from 1947 to 1953; He was also ambassador to Romania , based in Moscow . From 1953 to 1959 he was ambassador to Beijing.
