The Carl-Laemmle-Gymnasium (CLG) is the state high school sponsored by the city of Laupheim in the district of Biberach in Upper Swabia . The school is named after Carl Laemmle , the most famous Laupheim citizen and founder of Universal Studios in Hollywood .

history

On November 15, 1869, the Latin school in Laupheim began teaching. The admission age for students intending to pursue a scientific career was nine years. As the name suggests, the weekly timetable at that time consisted of fourteen-hour Latin lessons. German and arithmetic were both offered four hours a week. The other subjects such as religion, local history , music and sport were taught on an optional basis. In 1896, a secondary school class was set up in which the foreign language French was taught instead of Latin. In 1910 the Laupheim Latin and Secondary School moved into the building of today's Wieland School.

time of the nationalsocialism

From 1937 the Nazi era also found its way into Laupheim schools. The curricula were rearranged. Instead of the subject of religious studies, there was the subject of ideology . All non- Aryan students were excluded from classes. The former secondary school with a Latin section became a high school for boys . At the time of the Kingdom of Württemberg, Laupheim had the largest Jewish community in Württemberg.

After the war

School lessons took place in Schloss Kleinlaupheim between 1945 and 1947. In 1954 the name Gymnasium was reintroduced as Progymnasium . In 1957, the school type was defined as mathematical and scientific with French as the first foreign language.

In 1965, due to the population growth, the decision was made to expand the Progymnasium into a full institution. The number of students doubled from 1964 to 1973. On October 13, 1968, the new school building, today's high school on Herrenmahd, was opened. On July 23, 1999, another extension to the existing high school building was inaugurated. For the 2012/13 school year, the grammar school was expanded to include additional rooms in a separate building. This building also serves the Carl-Laemmle-Gymnasium and the Friedrich-Adler- Realschule.
