life and work

CO Hultén initially worked as an advertising designer. As a visual artist he is self-taught. In 1944 he traveled to Copenhagen with Anders Österlin and made contacts with Danish artists. In 1946 he founded the avant-garde artist group Imaginisterna together with Max Walter Svanberg and Anders Österlin .

“Of the Swedes, Hultén is perhaps best described as the intellectual cousin of the CoBrA artists because of his uncompromisingly expressionistic formal language, which he developed after overcoming the surrealist phase . In the years after the war, imaginary figures appear in his painting, but later this becomes more abstract. "
