Carl Arnold (composer)
Carl Arnold (born May 6, 1794 in Neunkirchen near Bad Mergentheim , † November 11, 1873 in Christiania, today Oslo ) was a Norwegian composer of German origin.
Life
Arnold studied a. a. with Aloys Schmitt (piano) and Johann Anton André (music theory). In 1847 he came to Christiania, now Oslo, as a political refugee, where he directed the orchestra " Det Philharmoniske Selskab " from 1849 to 1863 and from 1857 served as organist at the Trinity Church (Trefoldighetskirken). He was considered an excellent teacher and music theorist, excellent pianist and experienced composer. His students include the Norwegian composers Halfdan Kjerulf and Johan Svendsen .
He wrote u. a. an opera ( Irene , Berlin 1832), a symphony , a piano concerto and also the coronation music, which was performed in 1860 at the coronation of Charles XV. was performed in Trondheim's Nidaros Cathedral .
