Arrey from Dommer
Arrey von Dommer (born February 9, 1828 in Danzig , † February 18, 1905 in Treysa ) was a German music historian and librarian.
Life
Arrey von Dommer was initially interested in theology , but switched to music in 1851. In Leipzig he learned composition under Johann Christian Lobe and Ernst Friedrich Richter and began to learn the organ. In 1863 he moved to Hamburg , where he gave lectures on music history and theory and published reviews in the Hamburg Correspondent . From 1873 to 1889 he worked at the Hamburg City Library. He spent his retirement in Marburg .
Dommer revised Heinrich Christoph Koch's Musical Lexicon for the 1865 edition . In addition to his Handbuch der Musikgeschichte , published in 1868, Dommer was also the author of numerous contributions to the Allgemeine Deutsche Biographie . His writings on the Luther prints ( Luther prints on the Hamburg city library 1516–1523, 1888) and The oldest prints from Marburg in Hesse 1527–1566 (1892) were influential . He also composed some vocal works.
