In May 1860 Koehlmann founded a factory in Frankfurt (Oder) that produced starch syrup and starch sugar . In just a few years the company developed into one of the leaders in this branch in Europe. On November 6, 1871, the company was converted into a stock corporation under the name “Starch Sugar Factory AG vorm. CA Koehlmann & Co. “On February 26, 1938, the company was converted into Koehlmann-Werke AG.

In 1939 the Koehlmann-Werke dealt with the manufacture and sale of products made from potatoes and other agricultural raw materials. The products included potato flour , potato starch products, corn syrup, starch sugar, table syrup, dextrose , cooler , caramel , dextrin , German pudding flour (pudding powder made from potato starch), potato flakes , rolled potato flour, oat flakes , flax and tow .

In 1943 there were starch and potato flake factories in Schneidemühl , Fürstenwalde (here with an oat flake factory), Wellmitz (with a sawmill), Nechlau near Guhrau (Silesia) (with flax processing), Stolp (Pomerania) and Loitz (Peene ) in addition to the plant in Frankfurt (Oder) ) and the Humboldt lignite mine in Spudlow (Weststernberg district) .

The factory in Frankfurt (Oder) was dismantled in October / November 1948 as a reparation payment to the Soviet Union. The factory site in Goepelstrasse, known as “Koehlmannhof”, is now an industrial wasteland . The Koehlmann-Werke AG starch factory and sawmill in Wellmitz was dismantled and blown up on November 15, 1949. The factory cellars have been preserved in Fürstenwalde. The plant, which opened in Nechlau in 1904, traded under the name Wielkopolskie Przedsiębiorstwo Przemysłu Ziemniaczanego SA in 2018.
