Carl August von Bose

Carl August Graf von Bose (born November 7, 1814 in Gamig ; † December 25, 1887 in Baden-Baden ) was a privy councilor, scientist and last representative of the Vogtland line of the von Bose family .

Life

He was the first-born son of the royal Saxon court marshal August Graf von Bose (1787–1862) and Catharina Natalie Elisabeth born. von Löwenstern (1795–1879).

After attending the Kreuzschule in Dresden , he studied law in Berlin and Paris. He then embarked on an official career in which he was promoted to the Privy Council. In his spare time he became interested in the natural sciences at an early age. He became a member of the Senckenberg Natural Research Society and the Zoological Society.

On May 15, 1845, he married Loise Wilhelmine Emilie born in Baden-Baden . Countess von Reichenbach-Lessonitz (1813–1883), a daughter of Elector Wilhelm II of Hesse. Both moved to Kassel in Hessen , where his wife supported her husband's scientific studies.

Carl August Graf von Bose died in 1887. Ernst Haeckel gave his funeral speech .
