from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl August von Schönberg , modernized Karl August von Schönberg , (born March 11, 1725 , † June 7, 1806 in Dresden ) was an electoral Saxon chamberlain, chief tax collector and, most recently, chief tax director and commissioner of the Cassen-Billets-Commission and manor owner.

Life

He came from the Saxon noble family von Schönberg and was the son of Adam Friedrich von Schönberg and his wife Wilhelmina Ernestina nee von Einsiedel . Heinrich Wilhelm von Schönberg was his brother. In 1742 he received his doctorate at the University of Leipzig , where he probably met Christian Fürchtegott Gellert , with whom his father was already in contact. Gellert later visited Schoenberg on his estate Meine weh.

After the death of his parents, the manor of Meineweh fell to Carl August von Schönberg, who at that time was the chief tax secretary in the service of the Saxon elector and Polish king. He was very interested in agriculture, horticulture and fruit growing.

On November 4, 1766, he bought the Mannlehnrittergut Gut Pretzsch , not far from Meineweh, from governor Wolf Heinrich Ernst von Natzmer , after having previously acquired the Meineweh manor . He was also the owner of the Schleinitz estate and the higher courts in Hollsteitz .

On September 13, 1788, Carl August von Schönberg sold his Pretzsch manor to the Prussian major Ernst August Friedrich von Marschall (Marshal von Herrengosserstedt). He died on February 14, 1805 in Crossen in the Zeitz Abbey and left no male heirs.
